Real Life Mysteries Book Review

We all know how inquisitive children can be and with every question starting with 'why', it can be a bit of a struggle to find the answer at times.  And if your kids are anything like K, who is always knee deep in solving mysteries, finding answers and making discoveries then you're going to want the Real Life Mysteries book by B Small Publishing.

Kebab Recipe

Since everyone is a fan of the kebab, I thought it was time to share my Kebab recipe on the blog.  It's very easy to make with a few key ingredients you'll be making your very own kebabs in no time.  Dip in mint chutney or even ketchup if you prefer.  Or you can even make a kebab sandwich in pitta bread, filled with salad and your favourite sauce.  Perfect!

Modest Midi Dresses from Asos

When I talk about modest midi dresses I mean the one's that are preferably below the knees, have long sleeve and higher necklines.  These are the ones I look for and it's a real shame when the necklines are too low that you're in danger of revealing more than you intend to.  And although you love the dress there always seems to be that one thing that stops you from buying it.  Even though we're so used to layering that even the most revealing dresses can be modified to look decent, but sometimes it's a bit much.  However, this season, I've been pleasantly surprised to find such a huge choice of midi dresses that actually fit my specifications.

The Histronauts An Egyptian Adventure Book Review

Growing up one of my favourite lessons in History were the ones where we learnt about the Egyptians, the Pyramids and of course Tutankhamun.  I can still remember going to the museum and seeing the mummies and all the artefacts.  I was fascinated.  And so watching K go through the same excitement at learning about the wonders of Egypt, this book couldn't have arrived at a better time.

Etsy Finds | Winter Warmers

I've been thinking about writing up this post for a while now, but never got round to it.  Yesterday, I decided to do a poll on my Instagram stories and everyone who voted said 'YES!'.  Except for 2 people.  Which is why my Etsy finds post is being typed up right now.

My All Saints Wishlist + 40% Off

I'm surprised I've never bought anything from All Saints since most of their clothing is right up my street, especially in the colour department.  Plenty of dark shades, black, greys and hints of blush.  Just perfect.  And since I haven't done a wish list post for a very long time, I think it's time for another one on the blog, don't you think?

The Perfect Books for Every Homeschool Parent | Bloomsbury Curriculum Basics

If you're thinking about homeschooling and don't know where to start or just find the whole process a little daunting then I'm about to share some amazing books that'll help you through.  When I first started homeschooling I struggled with what exactly I was supposed to teach K.  I needed a place that explained to me in plain english what I had to teach her and what she needed to know during her Primary school years.

Book Haul | The Book People

I love the smell of new books and since homeschooling K I've been buying a lot more books than I've done before.  I'm actually quite enjoying it.  We've got quite a collection of books and it's great for K to have a little library of her own to delve into whenever she's doing some research or just for pleasure.  She's always been a bit of a bookworm so I picked up some classics for her too.

10 Tricks To Avoid Bloggers Block

The other day, I was thinking about blogging, again. It seems to be the only thing on my mind at the moment.  Considering I was having a little slump in my blogging journey, I've done well to get back on track.

Saturday, 25 November 2017

So here's a recipe I'm sure you're all going to love.  It's been a while since I posted my last recipe on here and this one is too good not to share.  Doritos and cheese.  I can't think of anything better than that right now.

Top Coats for Autumn/Winter 2017

If you've been here for a while then you know that this is a post I write every year.  This year is no different, although it's taken me a little longer than usual.  I've been going through the dreaded blogger's block!  If you're not a blogger then let's just say it's every bloggers worst nightmare.

Blogging Again?

So here I am blogging again.  I've been thinking about getting back into blogging, like serious blogging.  Like maybe, posting everyday or every other day or even having a proper schedule and actually sticking to it.  Because, you see, although everything might look so polished, you know the bit you see, it actually takes a lot of hours and hard work to get there.

Educating K | Useful Resources, Websites & Books

When I first started homeschooling these are the kind of posts I would search for online.  Something to help me along and read about other peoples experiences and advice.  So I really hope my Educating K series has been useful.  Today, I'm sharing my favourite resources, websites and books that have helped me and K start our homeschool too.  I'm also sharing other books that I've come across which I think will be useful in your homeschool.  I haven't bought them yet, but they're definitely on my list.

Educating K | Which Resources Are We Using? | Skills Based

You'd think that the previous two posts were enough when it came to homeschooling, but for me there are a few skills which are just as important to help your child along.  They add a little extra and work wonders at enhancing their learning experience and adding skills that will stay with them and benefit them greatly.

Educating K | Which Books Are We Using? | Other Subjects

Since my previous post was too long I had to split the post into 3 parts otherwise we'd have been here all day!  I've talked about how we're learning English, Maths and Science so today we'll be looking at Geography, History, Computing and Islamic Studies.

Educating K | Which Books Are We Using? | Core Subjects

So here's the post that so many of you have been requesting.  Which books are you using?  This is a question that I get asked a lot and I'm always happy to share whatever I can with you.  I've had to split it up into 3 parts otherwise this post would have been just too long!

Educating K | How I Planned our Whole Year

I love planning.  Planning for a holiday or planning a new concept for Love Hijab.  But planning a lesson is something I'd done a very long time ago and wasn't quite sure how planning a whole year let alone a day of homeschooling was going to have in store for me.

Educating K | Our Homeschool Timetable

Before I tell you all about how I planned our whole year, I think it would be best to talk to you about the subjects K will be studying.  First, I made a list of all the subjects K wanted to learn.  I knew we would definitely be doing English, Maths, Science and Computing, but K also requested we do Geography and History too.  And when I came across Safar Publications books, they were the perfect books to teach K all about our religion as well as teaching her to respect other religions too.

Educating K | Why Are We Homeschooling?

So here's a post I've been meaning to write up for a while.  I know I like my fashion related posts but I actually do have other things going in on my life too.  Amongst all other things, is homeschooling.  We just started homeschooling in February this year and although it was difficult to begin with, we soon settled in.  I thing we were kind of thrown in at the deep end, you could say.  Because we had never really looked into it before or done any research, it was like we were heading into the unknown.  And to be honest, we were!

How To Style An Oversized Coat

There was a time that I remember so clearly when no one would wear anything oversized or even a couple of sizes bigger than their actual size.  Everything had to be the correct size.  But I'm so glad that these days you can comfortably go to a store and pick up a sweatshirt or t-shirt in a larger size without feeling like you're going to stick out like a sore thumb.  That's why I love the oversized look and it's great for those days when you don't want to make an effort, but don't want to look like you haven't made an effort either!  You get what I mean?

Top 5 Shoes Under £20 from H&M

If you don't love a bargain when buying a pair of shoes, then I'm afraid to say there's something not quite right.  I can't resist a good bargain, especially when it comes to shoes.  I have a collection that's too big for my wardrobe even though I cleared most of them out a couple of years ago.  Don't ask me what happened after that because I'm back to square one.  And as if my shoes collection isn't over flowing enough, I went on the hunt for more and came across a few gems I couldn't help but share with you too.

Top 10 Dresses Under £30 from Zara

Who doesn't love a bargain, especially when it's from Zara!  I'm sure you already know that I love Zara and I'll often feature their clothing on my blog or Youtube Channel too.  So, when I was having a little old browse, I spotted quite a few dresses and when I saw the price tag, I was shocked to find them all under £30.

How To Style A Checked Dress

When I think about checked fabric it either makes me think of my school uniform as a 6 year old or a picnic!  So I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this updated checked print.  Gone are the days when checked was just checked and stripes were just stripes, because if you remember the striped shirts this Summer, well, then they were all about floral embroidery.  And it seems like the checked print has caught the bug too.  I love the mixture so I couldn't resist styling this red and black checked shirt dress with gorgeous poppies thrown all over it.  This was a challenge I couldn't turn down!

How To Style A Satin Dress

If you've ever tried wearing anything made out of satin, you'll be all too familiar with this fabric.  In my opinion, it's one of the most difficult fabrics to wear.  It can cling to your body in all the wrong places and along with that, there are some colours that just don't work in this fabric.  Baby pink comes to mind, as does sky blue.  A colour I instantly regretted wearing when I was much younger.  Needless to say I never laid my hands on satin after that fiasco.  But, things may be about to change.

Pineapple & Mint Mojito

Since I haven't been very active on here for a while, I thought I should write a little foodie post.  It most definitely has been a while hasn't it?  I made my Pineapple & Mint Mojito the other day and it went down a treat so it's time to share it with you too.  It's very refreshing and perfect for this season.  Although I'm saying that, here in the UK it's been a little on and off.  We've had our fair share of rain and it doesn't look like it's going to stop, but you never know with our weather.  I'm still hoping for some sunshine.  I shouldn't complain because it's not been too bad.  A little rain never hurt anyone.

Ramadhan & Diabetes | I Don't Fast!

It's not always that I talk about something so personal, but I thought maybe it was time to share this with you.  Recently, I've been feeling a little bad when people ask me questions like 'How's your Ramadhan going?' or 'Hope your Ramadhan is going well'.  I don't fast because I can't.  So when someone asks me that, I feel awful.  Even though I'll say it's going well, deep down I know they're actually referring to the fasting part of Ramadhan and since I don't keep any, my Ramadhan isn't the same as everyone elses.

Part 3 | Underscarves & Keeping Your Hijab In Place

I know this post is super late and so I'm super sorry.  It's taken me a while but it's finally here.  I'm not going to go into all the details, maybe I'll leave that for another post.  But all I'll say is that there have been some major changes to my life and so I'm just getting used to my new routine.

Anyways, without further ado let's get started because I think I've made you guys wait long enough.

How To Style A Pleated Maxi Dress

As you all know, I love a good maxi dress so when I came across this one I knew exactly how I was going to style it.  You can never have too many black dresses in your wardrobe and this one is a definite must have.

Part 2 | How To Care For My Hijab & Storage Ideas

Last Saturday, I talked about which fabric is best for my hijab, so it only feels right to talk about how to care for your hijab and along with that some storage ideas too.  Just as much as the fabric of your hijab is important so is how you care for them.

My First Proper Youtube Video

I can't believe I'm actually doing this!  I'm actually talking in my Youtube video!  It's a big deal for me because I never thought I would ever do that.  I'm a very shy person and often feel extremely self conscious.  Although I try not to let it stop me from doing what I want to, when it came to actually speaking in my videos I had the usual hang ups.

Do you know what the great thing about style is?  It's that you can borrow some great tips from men's fashion and make it your own.  Which is why I'm bringing something new to the Love Hijab Girl blog.  Today, we're talking about Clever Spring Styles to help you transition from the colder months into the slightly warmer Spring season.

What's in my bag?

I never knew I would be doing this post.  Ever!  But when Nasra from Twenty Five Stars tagged me in her Inside A Seamstress's Bag post, I felt like it was time to show you what's inside mine too.  Of course, I'm no seamstress, although I do know how to operate a sewing machine or two.  I must say it definitely comes in handy.  And since this one has a theme centred around careers I thought it would be a great fit for my blog.

Part 1 | Which fabric is best for my hijab?

If you're a hijab wearer like me then you know that there are so many hijabs out there in a wide range of fabrics.  Some are thicker whilst others are ever so delicate you daren't take it anywhere near a washing machine!  But what about if you're completely new to hijab?  It can be pretty overwhelming.  Well, fear not!  I'm here to offer you some helpful advice and tips to make your transition a smooth one.

INSTA Q&A | Why did I start a hijab business?

You've probably already guessed what todays post is all about.  I mean, the title's given it away!  This post is yet again another one of your questions from Instagram.  This time it was sent in by @shafiamiah and it's one of those questions that's on everyone's mind.  (I ask the same question when I look at other entrepreneurs).  Want to know why?  Read on to find out...

MODEST FASHION | How to style leggings & jeans modestly

Last week I asked you to send me some questions on Instagram.  I thought that I'd be able to do one post with all your questions but it wasn't going to be that easy.  Nope!  And I'm sure it would be way too long of a post to be acceptable in the blogging world.  So I'm doing a post for each question and rightly so.

The first question was sent in by @yazrajadesigns on Instagram and here's what she asked.

Farfetch x Aquazzura : The Capsule Collection

If you know me then you know about my obsession with shoes.  They definitely make or break an outfit.  My shoe collection is way too big for my wardrobe and although I don't wear heels everyday (even though I'd love to), I'll find any excuse to add another pair to my collection without batting an eyelid!
